Training with Sifu Chris Collins

Personal Training

Before I was a martial artist, I was an athlete. I grew up playing sports; from football, baseball, basketball, weightlifting and track & field. I was also into skateboarding and surfing as a teenager. Today I regularly rock climb and do Parkour. What do all of these have in common? They require you to be physically fit and able to control your body. In order to do this, you must take the necessary steps in your nutrition/diet, proper rest and stretching and vigorous workout routines that will maximize your potential without the injury from over exhaustion or over working the muscles.

My goal as a fitness instructor is to help obtain your fitness goals without losing functionality. Many people who have professional careers outside of sport will train in a manner that is counterproductive. Meaning, they do not have a solid foundation in fitness training nor do they understand the importance of having a correct outlook or goal in their fitness regime.

Functional fitness

I have always focused on functional fitness to obtain my goals in whichever activity I was a part of. Functional fitness means, you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. It is a balance of strength, stamina, endurance, coordination, power, explosiveness, flexibility, agility and speed. By incorporating these key points into your workouts through a structured regime, you will be on your way to becoming a world class athlete. These are the formulas used at the professional level. If you are going to spend the time in the gym or doing roadwork, you had mine as well do it right, do it functional. You can choose to be all around functional fitness or sport specific.

Sport Specific

I have developed routines over the years to help develop people for their specific sport, whether you are a martial artist, rugby player, footballer, etc. It is important to know that there are specific workouts that are 100% effective in making you better at what you do. It also prolongs your career and reduces injury. Be proactive, be preventive.
